A Hot Summer to Be

KXAN Austin Forecast

KXAN Austin Forecast

Well, the Texas summer finally arrived this week with several days of 100+ temperatures. Word is that the drought level will be increased from Level 1 to Level 2 come fall or thereabouts, and with our lakes sitting at only 38% of their normal watery depth its not looking good.

Attended the second night of a self-editing workshop and received a wealth of great feedback on A Painful Blessing that I’ll be addressing this weekend with the goal of getting it ready for production. The attendees were really great and interested in getting a writing group together to continue, so will be looking into that as well. I love my current beta-readers but most are not writers and so their feedback, while good, does not directly address some of the issues a new writer like myself is concerned with. And since they are struggling with the same issues, a mutual aid society would be of great help to us all.

Received two calls from recruiters looking to place me into other positions, but refused. My current employer is outstanding and I’d hate to leave. The people I work with are known, dedicated professionals, and the tasks for me to do for them are interesting and true learning experiences I’d hate to give up. Right now, they would like to keep me around another 6 months, for which I’m grateful as I hate looking for work. Not that I wouldn’t enjoy some time off to do more fiction writing. I am so charged up lately with ideas and my monthly production is going gang busters, I’m finally feeling like I am accomplishing something here.

Started yet another story, tentatively titled The Final Escape, another sci-fi short. I like that I have multiple projects under way as it enables me to keep busy all the time. If I am stuck or bored with working on one I  just swap to another and keep working.

Next week is a holiday and I originally planned to travel just to get out of Dodge Austin, but decided to work on Friday instead. Am already planning a trip over Labor Day and that one will definitely happen.

Everyone have a happy holiday and drive safely.
