Nemesis Probe Release Day

An early rendering of Hieronymus, by LFT

Another month, another short story released. That’s 4 months in a row now, w00t!  I feel so successful. Now, if only someone would read the darn things.

Woke up early and began whipping Nemesis Probe into shape for publication. Practice is making it go faster if not more perfectly. Started with Amazon since they are the most straightforward to produce. Opened the story in Scrivener, made sure the cover image was the right size, and pressed Compile. Verified the MOBI file in the Mac Kindle app and then uploaded it. I expect it to appear later today or early tomorrow as they don’t waste any time in getting product into the sales channel.

Next, it was onto Smashwords. Back to Scrivener again and output a DOC file. SW requires a Word document (blech!) for its Meatgrinder software, then some formatting cleanup in Word like removing the header info, setting up my TOC, and other sundry details the converter complains bitterly about if its not perfect. Uploaded file and for the first time ran into a huge conversion queue, staring somewhere around #1823 in line. Have seen a 20+ queue before, but not one in the thousands. Anyway, what normally takes a couple of minutes is still waiting for its first pass.

So, onto iTunes, the most picky of them all. All those previous headaches of delivery I learned and avoided this time around. Back to Scrivener, output my EPUB file, run it through the EPUB Validator (twice, damn date formats) and then into iProducer, Apple’s software for creating product upload packages. Filled in all the data and delivered it without error for the first time ever on the first try. Will wonders never cease?

So, now its a waiting game for approval. Smashwords should be first once the Meatgrinder software finishes. Cross my fingers it finds no issues as then it goes on sale immediately. Amazon should be next and sometime later this week iTunes will follow and another short story will be available everywhere for your reading pleasure. Will post direct links as they arrive.

Onto finishing Amaranthine Dreams. Been a bit busy and its not where it should be, in my alpha readers hands for feedback. Gotta get that done before I head to Michigan for the holidays.

Got some great feedback from my critique group on Wednesday for Chapter 2 of An Empire Forgotten, where Archer is hired by Sleide to kill some late night revelers. Plus I’ve got a couple of docs to review for today’s critique group as well. Lots to do and little time to make it happen.
