Cloud Atlas Rocks!

Had a chance to see the new Cloud Atlas movie starring Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugo Weaving, and Hugh Grant, at the Alamo Drafthouse this morning and was blown away. It may be the best movie I’ve seen this year, certainly the best story execution since Black Swan. It certainly will require a couple more viewings to see and understand more of the story nuances.

Unusual for me, I have not yet read the book, Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell. I plan to fix that by immediately ordering it to read the story in its original form.

Not your typical movie story, and very highly recommended.

Update: If the bad reviews and low numbers of moviegoers are keeping you away, just do yourself a favor and ignore them both. This is a thinking man’s movie, requiring active participation of the viewer, and a willingness to go beyond hearing quick cheap laughs and seeing massive explosions every few minutes.
