Yet Another Book Reading Summary

Spawn_of_prophecyo, its been a couple of weeks since last I reported on what books I’ve been reading. Sorry about that. Just got a wee bit busy at work and home and failed to document them. So let’s get to it.

A couple of weeks ago I reread the complete 5-book Belgariad series by David and Leigh Eddings. Almost didn’t do it. Had the desire and thought, I know I’ll read these at least once more so I should grab the ebook versions instead of digging the paperbacks out of the boxes they were probably still stowed in. Have about a half-dozen of those from when I had a wood floor installed and never unpacked them.

The books include:

  • Pawn of Prophecy
  • Queen of Sorcery
  • Magician’s Gambit
  • Castle of Wizardry
  • Enchanter’s End Game

I go looking on Amazon only to find that there are NO ebook versions available to purchase in the US! How stupid is that? One of the best fantasy series of the last 20+ years and the publisher hasn’t republished them in ebook format. Now, it may be their contract doesn’t allow them to do that, although ebooks weren’t a consideration when the books were written, or maybe the authors refused to allow them to do that. Again, probably not likely. Eventually had to dig the paperbacks out to read. Did one a day until I was done and enjoyed them all over again. A very fine series, well written, plotted, and with great characters to boot. I’d provide links but since there are none, poot on them.

EDIT: Kindle versions are available in the UK and Australia, but not the US. Go figure.

Also, finally finished Blue Remembered Earth by Alistair Reynolds as well. Started slow but got better as the story moved along. Never really induced the awe of some of his other books but loved the settings and the pace at which he revealed the story. One day I hope to emulate that in my own stories.
